NYK 94, DEN 110: Melo Scores 30 in Denver Return

Carmelo Anthony dropped 30 in his return to Denver, but it wasn't enough in the opener of a six-game road trip. The score was tied at 41 with 6:20 left in the first half, but a 16-0 Nuggets run was too much to overcome on a night when the rest of New York's starters struggled.

"We started settling for jump shots," said Kurt Rambis of the 110-94 loss. "It was just about us not controlling the paint all night long."

Denver outscored the Knicks, 62-36, in the paint, and forced 16 turnovers to hold off New York's late runs.

Knick of the Night

Anthony was a handful for every defender thrown at him, shooting 9 for 18 from the field. He attacked the basket and went 11 for 11 from the free throw line, adding 7 boards, 4 assists and three blocks in an impressive effort against his former team.

News and Notes

  • Lance Thomas left the floor during pre-game warmups and did not dress because of a sore left knee. An MRI showed no structual damage.

  • With Kristaps Porzingis back from a lower leg injury, Derrick Williams returned to his familar role as a spark plug off the bench and went 3-for-4 from downtown with 15 points.

Next Up

The Knicks have a chance to bounce back on Wednesday night in Phoenix. Tipoff is at 9 p.m. on MSG.
